ORTHODONTICS FOR CHILDREN
Dr. Passamano recommends seeing children between 7-8 years of age to determine if early interceptive orthodontic treatment is beneficial. Early treatment provides the opportunity to improve the growth of the jaws, to achieve a better facial balance and to guide incoming teeth. This interceptive treatment creates room for crowded erupting teeth, gains space for permanent teeth and minimizes the need for future extractions. It also reduces the likelihood of impacted teeth and reduces adverse oral habits such as thumb sucking.
Not all children will benefit from early treatment. Some children will benefit from orthodontic treatment when most of their permanent teeth are present, or when 2-3 baby teeth are still present. |
